We can all agree on the fact that Toyota dropped the ball with not just the location of their wireless charging pad, but also the lack of wattage. If you’re a power user of your phone like I am, you’re typically running Spotify, Google Maps, or OnX, as well as other apps. The included wireless charging base struggles to even keep your phone’s charge at a constant level.

Product Overview

The BMS RubiGrid is a fully modular dash mount platform that uses AMPS mounting balls. With it, you can mount multiple devices and easily change up the configuration to dial in your perfect setup.
Although this dash mount is designed to hold your phone, it can do much more than that. Whether you need to mount phones, tablets, action cameras, or radios, RubiGrid can handle it. It has the look and feel of a factory-installed option and follows the lines of the dash tray opening while still allowing access to the dash-mounted 12V outlet.
Installation

Minimal tools are needed for installation. The process is pretty straightforward, but it does involve drilling holes into your factory dash tray. BMS provides all of the necessary tools and hardware.
Step 1. Remove Factory Dash Tray

Use the included (or your own, if you already have one) trim removal tool to carefully pry around the edge of the dash tray to release it from the clips holding it in place. It requires very little force and once you have a decent section pulled up. Then, use your hands to pull the tray out the rest of the way.
Step 2. Disconnect 12V Outlet

Use your finger to push the white clip, allowing you to easily disconnect the 12V inlet from the dash mount tray.
Step 3. Mark Holes To Mount Base Into Factory Tray

Remove the top five screws from the RubiGrid mount so that you can lay the base into the factory tray. You can then use the supplied screwdriver to mark the locations in which you’ll drill five holes.
Step 4. Drill Holes Into Factory Tray

Carefully drill five holes where you marked the holes for the RubiGrid base. I used the supplied product box under the factory tray to ensure that I wouldn’t drill into my workbench.
Step 5. Attach RubiGrid Base To Factory Tray

Grab the supplied screwdriver and wrench so that you can tighten the base to the factory tray. Be careful not to tighten too much, as you can crack the plastic tray.
Step 6. Determine Location & Attach AMPS Ball

BMS doesn’t provide clear instructions on the best way to determine the location of where you should mount the AMPS ball, but that’s an easy task. I laid the tray back into its position on the dash (without securing the clips) and then used my hands to maneuver around my phone’s desired location in relation to the mounting arm and AMPS ball.
Once I had a good idea of where to mount the AMPS ball, I then took the tray back into the shop to secure the AMPS ball to the grid tray. Each ball secures with four bolts, washers, and nuts – it’s not going anywhere.
Pro Tip: The only frustrating part of the entire installation was when I had to relocate the AMPS ball. The first time I mounted the ball, it actually blocked the five holes that attached the top grid to the bottom base from lining up, so I had to relocate the ball about an inch further to the left. Not a big deal, but it would’ve been nice if BMS would’ve mitigated this possibility by adjusting the grid’s cutouts.
Step 7. Attach Top Grid To Bottom Base

Lay the top grid over the bottom base so that the five screw holes line up. Using the provided screwdriver, tighten the screws to secure the top grid to the bottom base.
Step 8. Re-Connect 12V Power & Secure Tray Back Into Dash
Re-connect the 12V power inlet to the factory tray’s cigarette lighter and then carefully push the tray back into the dash, ensuring that all clips properly engage so that the tray is secure.
Pro Tip: The USB cable that’s included from BMS is a USB-A to USB-C cable, which doesn’t support true fast charging. Instead of using their cable, I went ahead and added a dual-port fast charger adapter and a rotational USB-C cable. Not only do I now have fast charging, but I also have a cleaner look because instead of a cable dropping down from the bottom of the MagSafe charging base, it now has a 90-degree pivot.
Step 9. Assemble & Secure Arm & MagSafe Wireless Charger

Once you have the charger in the desired location, then securely tighten the two rotary attachments to stabilize the arm and the charger. The instructions mention that it’s normal to have to re-tighten the mounting arm periodically within the first 30 days, but I haven’t had to do that. BMS even supplies a nifty tightening tool.
Final Thoughts

I have very few complaints about my 3rd Gen Sequoia, but the location and the lack of power of their wireless charging was certainly one of them. The OEM charger provided very little wattage, was in a strange place to reach for, and didn’t secure your phone so charging constantly cut in and out.
The Bulletpoint Mounting Solutions RubiGrid dash mount has definitely been a nice addition. If you’re wondering about how stable it is while wheeling, then rest easy. The mount is rock solid and has little-to-zero movement while blasting through the trails! My next addition will be a Midland GMRS radio and I have no doubt that this dash mount will make for easy installation and access.
